Alex (he/him) is a Senior Lecturer in Primatology at Bangor University in North Wales, where he directs the BSc/MZool Zoology with Primatology course at the School of Environmental and Natural Sciences.

Since 2017 Alex has been studying the Zanzibar red colobus monkeys on Unguja Island, Zanzibar (https://www.zanzibarredcolobusproject.org/), an endemic and endangered primate, to understand if and how this species copes with rapid anthropogenic change throughout their fragmented island habitat.

Previously, Alex has studied male reproductive strategies in chimpanzees in Kibale National Park, Uganda and rhesus macaques in Puerto Rico, and the energetics and socioecology of bonobos at Kokolopori in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
