Welcome to the website of the Primate Society of Great Britain

This year we are proudly celebrating the 40th anniversary of our foundation from a specialist interest group of the Zoological Society of London. We are the UK's national primatological society, dedicated to the advancement of research on primates (including humans), their biology, evolution, conservation and captive welfare. Through our conferences, our thrice-yearly publication of Primate Eye, and the activities of our working parties in Conservation and Captive Care, we aim to be active in both academic and more applied spheres. I hope you find our website useful and interesting, and we invite you to come to our meetings, apply to be a member, and purchase some of the goods we sell in aid of primate conservation.                                                                                                                                                 Professor Ann MacLarnon, President, PSGB

The Primate Society of Great Britain is a UK learned society (Registered Charity No. 290185) affiliated to the International Primatological Society and the European Federation of Primatology.

The PSGB was founded in 1967 to promote research into all aspects of primate biology, conservation and management.

The Society is very strong scientifically and holds regular scientific meetings. In addition, the Society has launched a conservation appeal to help the urgent plight of primates in nature. This appeal is co-ordinated by our Conservation Working Party, which considers and works towards many aspects of primate conservation.

The Society has also established a Captive Care Working Party which works in close association with the Conservation Working Party. This subcommittee considers all issues that relate to the use, maintenance and breeding of primates in captivity.

PSGB is a thriving society which invites membership from people with a serious interest in primates. There are three levels of membership: full, student and associate. The annual programme includes at least two scientific meetings. Members of the Society receive the journal PRIMATE EYE which is published three times a year, and includes reports of the Captive Care and Conservation Working Parties, abstracts of talks given at PSGB meetings, details of future meetings, book reviews, and news of primate projects amongst other things. Our ethical statement can be found here.
