This year marks the 50th anniversary of the start of Dr Jane Goodall DBE's ground-breaking research on chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii) at Gombe Stream, Tanganyika - now Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania. It also marks the beginning of a long tradition of other primatological research at this site, including olive baboons (Papio cynocephalus anubis), red colobus (Colobus badius tephrosceles), and people.
The PSGB's two-day scientific Winter Meeting will be held on 8th-9th December 2010, in celebration of the primatological research done at, or stimulated by, the Gombe studies over the past 50 years, and looking forward to the future. The meeting will consist of a number of invited presentations, as well as proffered papers, spread over the two days, and including several poster sessions. The PSGB and Jane Goodall Institute will be running merchandise stalls at the event, and we also plan to hold a book-signing event with Dr Jane Goodall DBE. As usual, we will have a ticketed social event at the end of the first day, in a local pub.
