Masters (MRes) programme in PrimatologyMasters (MRes) programme in Primatology at the Roehampton University. This Masters of Research degree programme will give you a unique opportunity to study primate biology in depth and will provide you with the skills needed to carry out research in primatology. This course is designed to teach graduate students how to carry our original research, and to put their findings into a theoretical context. This is preparation for more advanced research (e.g. a PhD) and for consultancy work. The programme will combine theoretical investigation with laboratory and fieldwork on a range of topics, including practical investigations in zoos and local habitats and the interpretation of skeletal material. After the first semester the emphasis will be on independent study, with all students carrying out an in-depth piece of original research. This may be carried out using museum collections, the University laboratories (e.g. for nutritional or hormonal analyses), on animals in captive collections (the University does not hold captive animals) or on wild animals. Students will be offered a range of projects by University staff, who have well established links with a number of institutions and field sites, but may also use their own contacts to find appropriate projects. All MRes students will produce a dissertation and a written paper in a form suitable for publication in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. See details at http://www.roehampton.ac.uk/pg/primatology/index.html. MSc Primate Biology and ConservationMSc Primate Biology and Conservation Roehampton University, London will give you a unique opportunity to study primate biology and its application to conservation issues in primatology. The programme will combine theoretical investigation with laboratory and fieldwork on a range of topics. It is designed to equip students from biological and/or environmental backgrounds with the intellectual and practical skills required for advanced research in conservation (e.g. a PhD) and for consultancy work. You will carry out behavioural investigations on captive and semi-free ranging animals in zoos and monkey parks, learn how to interpret and use GIS data and carry out analyses in our hormone laboratory. You will study conservation and ecology in depth- looking at both general conservation questions (e.g. the impact of climate change) and specific issues related to primates (e.g. the bushmeat trade). All students will undertake an in-depth piece of original research. This may be carried out using the University laboratories (e.g. for nutritional or hormonal analyses), on animals in captive collections (the University does not hold captive animals) or on wild animals. Our programme encourages students to build expertise in and awareness of current issues, and to interface with external speakers from appropriate institutions. Students will be offered a range of projects by University staff, who have well established links with a number of institutions and field sites, but may also use their own contacts to find appropriate projects. All students will produce a dissertation and will be encouraged to produce work suitable for publication. See details at http://www.roehampton.ac.uk/pg/primatology/index.html.
